Roll

(”Role” and Roll)

for three percussionists

2003

Durata 10’

First performance by Kungliga Musikhögskolans Slagverksensemble:

Pontus Langendorf, Tomas Lindberg and Ulf Strömquist

Royal College of Music, Stockholm (Kungliga Musikhögskolan), 16/5 2003

(the music excerpt is taken from this concert)

My idéa for the piece was to stage a drama where the three different groups of percussion:

wood, skin and metal, play the parts.

Each percussionist is using percussion instruments from mainly one group.

The different percussion groups are staged as three different characters/personalities:

the dominant (skin), the ”balanced” (wood) and the ”irrational” (metal).

I picture a family, where ”the metal percussionist” is playing the part of the child.

The skin and the wood percussionists could represent either one of the parents.

In my mind  I see  the music together with movement (dance).
